Finding Life Purpose or…more dark night of the soul

When we began the journey to consciousness in the 1960′s, when we began this exploration of the self, what were we actually doing? Because we are now living in a culture that is completely immersed in mysticism. We could say that mysticism has gone mainstream. And when I look at the types of struggles that people are enduring in their lives, I recognize they don’t need a therapist, they need a spiritual director. And that we turned to therapists in lieu of spiritual directors because we don’t have any.

If I was your spiritual director this is how I would talk to you. I would say, the first thing I want you to say to me is… what questions have you been asking of God? What are you expecting to hear from God? And then I would send you home with a homework assignment. I would tell you to empty yourself of thoughts in exactly those areas.
~
And you would empty yourself, and empty yourself, as part of a spiritual program, to begin to think, ‘what am I expecting of God?’
~
Simultaneously I want to take you into what happens in your ordinary life. What has to happen in your ordinary life that also sets the foundation for madness to strike. The kind of madness I was experiencing in December.
~
When you begin to ask mystical questions like, “God, talk to me clearly”, “God, take away distractions”, “God, let me know why I’m on this Planet”, you change the rules of your own life. And you’ve changed the rhythm of your life. What become necessary is the first stage… which is separation.
~
You have to become separated from the world that you know. The first stage is separation, and when you enter separation it can take you out of your job… it can take you out of your marriage… it can take you out of your family… it can take you out of the familiar life that you know. Why is that necessary?
~
Because what you are actually doing is saying, “I want every voice that detracts from the clear one, to be taken away from me”. What you’re actually praying, when you pray for spiritual union, is ‘get everything away from me that distracts me from you’.
~
You have to begin the journey of identifying all the false voices. How do you identify a false voice? You have to begin the journey of seeing into who’s hands you have commended your spirit… other than God.
~
In order for that to happen you have to experience the failure of the human world. You have to experience the breakdown of the human world. It has to happen.

Yes, I suppose after tomorrow we will be expected to address you as ‘Mr. President’, yet for today, you are still Barack. In our hearts… in our minds… on our tongues. I hope you embrace that as the compliment I believe it to be. It speaks to the power of your eloquence and your inner light that shines in the direction of hope… a hope for a change in direction that will lead to a better America, a better World.

As you summon the courage required to take on the challenging job as President of the united states of America I find myself writing to remind you that we, the keepers of the light, have your back.

And I’m going to share that the last 6 weeks of 2008 were beyond rough… and I feel inspired, perhaps compelled, to share the understanding that is beginning to land on me from my most recent trip through spiritual madness. If that sounds like a downer and you want to quickly move away… I understand… it’s this lopsided culture we live in that wants to pretend there is only the yang… by not speaking of the yin. Today I know better… we’ll gain by starting to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth… so help me something.

Dear 2009,
I know 2008 has left you with a few messes to clean up. We’re still counting votes to find out if our new Senator will be a former comedian or will continue to be a joke. We’re reeling at the news that Ponzi schemes are not limited to the Network Marketing industry that you know I love so well. And of course there is the remaining physical rebuilding left after 2008′s ‘winds of change’ merely became winds of destruction with names like Gustav and Ike and the many unnamed tornadoes.

As the ‘story’ we’ve labeled 2008 winds down we are going to end it by ‘making up’ a 61 second minute!

Isn’t that delightful? What a reminder of the illusion the measurement of time is… and of our creative powers.

So… I find myself wondering… what are you going to do with your extra second?

You can always let it passed unnoticed, but I have a feeling this is going to be a magic second that you may not want to ‘waste’. So I invite you to consider the possibility that this second… the extra second in 2008… could be an opportunity for you to CHANGE EVERYTHING!

I can’t believe I may be the only one who holds an optimistic perspective on the current tanking of the economy. I’m going to hop on out to the blogoshpere and see if things may be a bit more balanced than I realize. Meanwhile… I’ll offer my humble contribution to the conversation starting here by sharing my response to a recent query:

After hearing day after day of the horrible, failing economy in the US and in the entire world, I wonder if we can collectively put out positive energy to change the Economy? Am I off track?
~
Here’s my response to this person… and I’d love to hear your comments either way!

Hmmm… isn’t that exactly what’s happening?!?!!
Seems to me, as we raise our collective vibration, that all things out of alignment have to fall by the wayside… the CHANGE for the BETTER is on it’s way right now!
The house of cards that was the ‘economy’ is quite naturally tumbling… and I find this cause for celebration. It’s wonderful evidence that we are now holding a predominant intention that will no longer tolerate fraud and deceit. It’s as though finally, word has spread that the Emperor isn’t wearing any clothes!!! About time!
So I ask…. what would we like to create NOW?
How about an honest and transparent system of exchange for goods and services?
I suspect there’s a lot more ‘cleaning up’ to come in the economic/financial realm… and none of that need stop us from creating what we desire!
A great question might be — How can we serve each other today?

This is an actual letter sent to a man named Ryan DeVries regarding a pond on his property. It was sent by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Quality, State of Pennsylvania This guy’s response is great… it’s his story and he’s sticking to it, but read State’s letter before you get to the response letter.
SUBJECT: DEQ File No.97-59-0023; T11N; R10W, Sec. 20; Lycoming County
Dear Mr. DeVries:
It has come to the attention of the Department of Environmental Quality that there has been recent unauthorized activity on the above referenced parcel of property. You have been certified as the legal landowner and/or contractor who did the following unauthorized activity:
Construction and maintenance of two wood debris dams across the outlet stream of Spring Pond.

On Sunday I listened to an amazing conversation between Jennifer McLean, HealingRelease.com and Gregg Braden, author of several books including The Spontaneous Healing of Belief. Braden is considered a scientist, visionary and scholar… and while this particular conversation is no longer currently available… if you have any interest in the science of spirit and it’s inter-relationship with our physical universe, you might find him an interesting… even inspiring, resource.

I have to confess, I’ve spent most of my life in the joy and perplexity of trying to ‘figure out’ how everything ‘works’… so the conversation was particularly amazing to me because I heard… and felt… the penny drop, as my grandmother would say, as Braden talked about the new understanding held by mainstream scientists about the power we wield as creators and talked about how our beliefs provide the structure of our way of life.
